Two brothers are separated in childhood. The elder brother (Ashok Kumar) is a selfish man who has inherited the family fortune and is based in Madras. He is married to a wife devoted to him (Nirupa Roy) and has a son, a chubby little boy (Daisy Irani). The younger brother (Kishore Kumar) grows up on the streets of Bombay as a pick pocket. The elder brother comes to Bombay on business and falls prey to a femme fatale’s (Shyama) charms, planted to con him by her husband (Om Prakash) who is the elder brother’s crooked branch manager and who claims she is his unmarried sister. The younger brother reforms due to the love of a street performer (Nimmi). He comes to the rescue of his sister-in-law and nephew when they come to Bombay and forces his errant brother back on the right track.
