Nagaswaram player Shanmugasundaram (Sivaji Ganesan) and danseuse Mohanambal (Padmini) meet at a festival and in an argument Shanmugasundaram challenges her to dance to his music even as he falls for her in the process and her for him. But there are other obstacles to overcome now - a wealthy playboy and a 'toughie' both want Mohanambal. Finally all's well that ends well.
